Lazy Monday

This morning, we woke up to say goodbye to my mom, Katy and Tyler before the hit the road-er, air-for the states.

Because it continued to pour today, Al and I spent all day lazing about the room. At one point, we did venture out to eat lunch, but it was an adventure in this torrential rain!

We still had fun just relaxing and enjoying our time together. Even in the midst of a tropical storm, Mexico is incredibly beautiful.

Last Night With Family

To celebrate the last night in Mexico with mom, Katy, Tyler, Mary, Matt, Grandma, Grandpa, Craig and Robin, most of us headed to CinCin (the American restaurant) for some down-home cuisine.

Turned out the restaurant served very fancy nondescript-American-style food. There were a lot of mousses and foams involved. Not what I was expecting, but I thought it was delicious!

After dinner, we spent some time visiting with the family-the men smoked cigars and we all lounged around outside and just took in the beautiful night. What a great way to spend their last night in Mexico!

Ziplining

When Al and I first started planning the fun additions to our honeymoon, we were given a long list of stuff to do. We both prioritized ziplining way ahead of most of the rest, as everyone we'd talked to absolutely loved it. Turns out, my family was really interested in going, too!

On our first day as a symbolically married couple, Rigoberto and I woke up early to lots of rain. Seeing as a tropical storm hit during our wedding, this was not exactly a surprise. We were just hoping our day of flying through the trees wouldn't be canceled as a result.

We headed down to the lobby and luckily, our excursion van showed up right on time. We all hopped in and took off into the jungle!

Upon arriving, we were of course given the chance to hold a parrot for a family photo opp. Naturally, I held the wild animal-per usual on this trip.

Once all our gear was on and secure, we got a quick demonstration and intro to our trouble-making guides, and we were off! Er, I mean UP!

Al ended up being the only one of our group to go upside-down high above the trees. I was so proud!

After our ziplining experience, we took a bumpy ride out to a cenote to do some playing in the water. This commute was full of laughs and possibly even a little love connection for Val...? Ooh la la!

Once we got to the cenote, most of us ziplined in, and then spent some time playing in the water. A couple interesting things happened to me at this point: my top fell off and my contact fell out. Thank goodness our videographer was kind enough to cut the clip of my toplessness, which I'm sure exists. That was the good part. The bad part? I definitely put my probably-disease-ridden contact lens right back onto my eyeball. Smart. Luckily, I'm writing this post well after the fact and my eyeball is still in my head and seems to be functioning normally!

What a crazy fun day and a great way to spend the last afternoon in Mexico with the fam!

Breakfast in Bed!

Breakfast in bed was the perfect way to begin our first morning as a married couple!

I've Come Undone...

The effort that went into my hairdo. It was an effort getting them out, as well.

Married Dancin' Shoes

After dinner, we went to SCORES (why would we go anywhere else!?) and walked into an intense Mexico v. Amer-kuh futbol game on television. Katie Post and I chanted "Ooh-essay-ah! Ooh-essay-ah!" and washed all that American spirit down with red, white, and blue shots.

After the game, it was time to bust out the moves. I danced my little heart out all night long and had an amazing time. I didn't want the night to end!

Who's that chick with the monkey?

That's me! Yep, I got to hold monkeys on my wedding day. How many brides get to say that?!

Every few days we were at the resort, someone would come in with exotic animals (lion cub, monkeys, giant parrots, etc). I decided it would be awesome to hold the monkeys in my wedding dress. Cool, right?! The above picture was when it was still cool. The pictures below are of when it got real.

At this point, my sis-in-law, Holly caught my eye and saw my momentary panic that the monkeys were going to mess up my wedding 'do and barked at the monkey man to get them off my head...now. Man, when Holly needs to be stern, she's good at it. I wouldn't mess with her!

Because of this, the monkey man moved the little buggers so that they were sitting on my hands, which were rested on my hips (the first picture in this post). The end result: I got peed on by a monkey. On my wedding day.

My mom sprang into action, rushed me to the lobby bathroom and sanitized the crap out of my left hand.

Gross as it is, it's an awesome story to tell our kids one day!
